2017 Conference Welcome

We hope you will join us for the 2017 Wheatbelt Steel Men’s Shed Conference to
be held at the Merredin Leisure Centre, Bates Street, Merredin on Saturday 2nd
and Sunday 3rd September 2017.

We are delighted Wheatbelt Steel, a Northam steel fabricating company that
makes sheds, including the Merredin Community Men’s Shed, has been granted
naming rights for the conference.

Due to popular request by shedders to have a conference in the country, and
with the tremendous support of the Merredin Community Men’s Shed, it was
decided to hold the conference in Merredin. It will be held over 2 days
commencing with a light lunch at 12noon on Saturday followed by a business
session commencing at 1pm.

A dinner will be held on Saturday night commencing at the Cummins Theatre.
The maximum capacity is 150.

A business session will be conducted from 9am to 12noon on Sunday, followed
by a sausage sizzle at the Shed.

Partners are invited to the lunch on Saturday, the opening session of the
conference, dinner Saturday night and sausage sizzle on Sunday. Further
details of “things to do” planned for Partners are in the pipeline and attendees will
be advised in due course.

For the early birds arriving on Friday 1 September, a “sundowner” will be held at
the Merredin Bowling Club with participants buying their own drinks and meals.
To assist the caterers please advise WAMSA if you are attending?

You will have the opportunity to share the experience of the leaders of some
established Men’s Sheds, to build and connect to a rapidly growing Men’s Shed
community and obtain information that will help you to establish and further
develop your Men’s Shed.

WAMSA now has 175 sheds on the database, which includes committees that
are planning a shed. You will find details of WA Men’s Sheds here.

Lotterywest has been approached for funding as follows:

  • 75% of travel and accommodation expenses for a remote Shed
  • $100 per participant from the rest of the state, with a maximum of 4 per
    shed

As yet we have not received a response from Lotterywest. We will advise sheds
when a decision has been made.

The program will provide you with the opportunity to get connected to the
strategies, tactics, and solutions you need to successfully establish, operate and maintain a successful Men’s Shed in your community. It offers you the chance to
update your skills, reunite with friends and acquaintances and meet new
colleagues.

The conference is being held during the wildflower season and follows the
Dowerin Machinery Field Days on Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 August 2017.

Why not take this opportunity to spend a few days looking around the district?
Sunday will be promoted as the biggest Father’s Day party in WA.

I look forward to seeing you at the conference.
